In Volterra (Pisa), in the part near the Porta San Felice, this morning it is a piece of the ancient walls suddenly collapsed of medieval age. A section of provincial road 15 remained in the collapse that filled with boulders a passer-by was slightly injured.

“Currently the causes of the collapse are not attributable to water infiltrations behind the wall facing. It would appear to be a failure of the wall facing which overturned onto the street below”, explained the mayor Giacomo Santi.

Three families were evacuated for safety reasons and relocated for the next few days. The fire brigade dog unit did not detect any people under the rubble. From tomorrow, the mayor announced, work will begin to make the walls safe and remove the materials with a specialized company. The mayor, the members of the council and the municipal council, the firefighters, the police forces and the voluntary associations were present on site for the whole day.
