Ceasefire in Gaza, Netanyahu warns: “Israel will not accept Hamas’ demands”

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he said he “will not accept Hamas’ demands” and “will continue to fight until all of its objectives are achieved.” In a video statement, the prime minister said that “Hamas is adamant in its positions” and Israel “will not accept demands whose meaning is surrender.” According to the head of government, “it is Hamas that is preventing an agreement for the release of the hostages” and “Israel was and still is ready to conclude a truce in the fight to free our captives”.

Yesterday evening a member of the Hamas political office, Husam Badranaccused the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, not to show interest in the agreement, while underlining to the Qatari television station “Al Jazeera” that the proposal under discussion in Cairo is the best presented so far. Meanwhile, according to the Israeli television station “TV7”, the families of Israeli prisoners in Gaza have made yet another appeal to the head of government: “It is time to take the initiative, show courage and obtain the return of all 132 ( hostages held by Hamas). Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, history will not forgive you if you miss this opportunity to return our loved ones to us.”

On the other hand, the Israeli Minister for National Security Itamar Ben-Gvirleader of the far-right party Otzma Yehudit, urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to reject the “reckless” agreement with Hamas and to launch a military ground operation in Rafah, a Palestinian city in the southern Gaza Strip that hosts hundreds of thousands of refugees but also, according to the military Israelis, the Hamas leadership. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Ben-Gvir “congratulated” Netanyahu’s decision “not to send the Israeli delegation” to continue negotiations in Cairo. “I hope he will also keep the other commitments he made to me in a meeting we had last week: ‘No’ to an ill-advised agreement, ‘Yes’ to Rafah,” the Israeli minister added. “The prime minister knows very well the price to pay if these commitments are not kept,” warned Ben-Gvir, whose support for the governing coalition is crucial to allowing Netanyahu to remain in power.
