On the occasion of the reportage that the magazine Alvento n. 32 now on newsstands dedicated to the English major Tilman, the authors of the texts Fabio Dal Pan and the photos Matteo Mocellin, will tell their “sentimental” cycle-mountaineering journey from Asiago to Belluno passing through the Vette Feltrine and the Cansiglio, in homage to one of the greatest explorers (mountaineer, navigator and writer) of the first half of the 20th century, an English officer and protagonist of the Belluno Resistance.
The authors of the report will dialogue with the historians of the Resistance Giovanni Perenzin and Marcello Della Valentina and with Roberto Mezzacasa, creator of the Alta Via Tilman.
There are numerous episodes that link Major Tilman to the territory of Cesiomaggiore, such as that of the winter of 1944-45 when Tilman climbed the bell tower: “With the priest’s permission we climbed the bell tower, to have a clear view of the Piave and the villages located on the south bank, through which our road passed… When night fell, they took us to the hotel to drink with the local patriots and the priest, who was also a faithful patriot, entertained us with a bottle of wine .”
An opportunity to remember the legendary Major Bill Tilman, the Resistance, the Belluno mountains and how places and people are an inexhaustible source of inspirations, dreams and narratives of civil value.
