the story of the last day of rehearsals

Live reporting from Malmö · It’s a new day at the Malmö Arena, the last rehearsal before the Eurovision 2024 Turquoise Carpet machine begins. Today the Big 5 automatically qualified for the final and Sweden, the host country, will test for the second time.

We would like to remind you, however, that in any case the six countries will also perform in the respective semi-finals in which they have the right to vote, to guarantee them the same visibility as the other countries in the semi-finals (previously it was only possible to view a clip of the tests after an interview in the semi-final of reference).

For the second test of Angelina Mango of Italy we refer to another article, here we will focus on the other Bigs and on Sweden. We also remind you that unless there are official publications from the public broadcaster or representatives, no TikTok or YouTube video will be published for each individual test, all that will be a video of recap released after all the Big 5 and Sweden have rehearsed (so no earlier than 4pm).

United Kingdom – Olly Alexander – “Dizzy”

Olly Alexander he is the first to try on this last day of testing, and from the photos you would think that you can expect three minutes of complicated stunts inside the now well-known room, lighting up and opening towards the finale. It cannot be denied that it is a very complex staging for which no less skilled workers have been involved, we need to see if this experience taken “in the gayest way possible” as the singer himself claims Years & Years cannot be a disturbing element for the voting public, who might consider everything too repellent.

Germany – Isaak – “Always on the run”

He arrives Isaac and everything goes up in flames, literally. The staging on which it is based is that of an elegant living room which at a certain point catches fire around it. The busker sings with determination and a very convincing and determined voice, he certainly won’t be in the running for victory, but who knows, maybe he might be able to convince some jurors or spectators to vote for him despite it being one of the songs that has been talked about the least in all the previous weeks of preparation for Eurovision 2024.

Sweden – Marcus & Martinus – “Unforgettable”

As per tradition, Sweden does not change the cards previously shown at the Melodifestivalen, and the Norwegian twins Marcus and Martinus Gunnarsen bring back their “Unforgettable” on the Swedish stage representing the country that has relaunched their popularity.

The show is always of a high level, but could be perceived as excessively “detached” by the general public, and having to perform first on the final evening does not help.

France – Slimane – “Mon amour”

The French representative appears once again in total white, singing his “Mon amour” at the top of his lungs, released almost six months ago. Starting from lying down, Slimane he is surrounded by smoke and dry ice creating a very strong contrast between him and the rest of the completely dark Arena. Just before the end of the last chorus he also performs the trick of moving away from the microphone to free himself in one last vocal acrobatics, which will be impressive for those watching the show for the first time. Possible winner of juries?

Spain – Nebula – “Zorra”

The penultimate big one to try (the last one for this article) is the Spainrepresented by the group Nebula winner of the Benidorm Fest last February. The burlesque atmosphere remains, as does the iconic red sofa in the center of the stage and the dancers who leave no room for the imagination. It is difficult to predict how the public will react to such a performance, considering that the singer Maria (in an eye-catching black suit) struggled vocally and the “message” to convey may be more repulsive than usual.

Eurovision 2024: the dancing begins

Tomorrow, Sunday 5 May, will be the day when Eurovision Week 2024 will officially open. To decree all this there will be the iconic Turquoise Carpet, which will see all the artists (with the exception of Eden Golan, representative of Israel, for obvious security reasons) parading at the Malmö Live Congress and Concert Hallin the heart of Malmö and interact with the fans and press who will be present there, the event can be seen live on YouTube.

Then starting from Monday there will be the first official tests, with the press invited to access and view the performances of the first semi-final, awaiting the Jury Show of the first semi-final (in which the juries will vote but will only be used in case of televoting malfunction). It will then be on Tuesday 7 May that Eurovision 2024 will come to life with the first semi-final, which in Italy will be broadcast on Rai 2 with the second, while the final on 11 May will be broadcast as usual on Rai 1.
