Sora People’s University: the cycle of meetings within the archeology and ancient history seminars of the member continues in the month of May Manuela Cerqua. The appointment is for today, May 4, 2024, at 5:00 pm in the “Vincenzo Simoncelli” room, at the Municipal Library of Sora (Palazzo della Cultura, piazza Umberto I).
We will talk about the introduction of the alphabet in ancient Italy and the development of writing among the pre-Roman peoples who inhabited the area of modern Lazio. Interesting epigraphic evidence relating to the Etruscan, Volsco and Hernian contexts will be taken into consideration, together with others in archaic Latin, to explain the complexity of the linguistic and ethnic mosaic of Lazio before the generalization of the use of Latin. Graduated and specialized in Latin epigraphy, with a specialization thesis on the Latin inscriptions of Sora, for her PhD she studied the municipal elites of Casinum in Roman times. You are currently collaborating with La Sapienza University on a project for the edition of the Latin inscriptions of the Roman Forum.
