Santa Marinella – Pino falls and cuts gas pipes, firefighters intervene

SANTA MARINELLA – At 9.30 pm last night the Civitavecchia Fire Brigade intervened in via Meleagro, number 10, Santa Marinella, due to a gas leak. The root system and related clod of soil of a pine tree that fell onto the road raised the reinforced concrete slab for approximately five metres, severing part of a medium pressure methane gas pipeline.

The men from the Bonifazi barracks immediately plugged the leak with the supplied bituminous tape, and then intercepted and closed a valve upstream of it.

With Italgas staff, thanks to dedicated instrumentation, they detected a second, more in-depth leak. They later removed the fallen tree and assisted other Italgas technicians who, using an excavator, dug deep and plugged the second leak, making the entire affected area safe.

The Carabinieri of the Civitavecchia mobile radio and the Santa Marinella station were also present on site.
