CORDENONS – One was busy preparing the mixture for the motor, the other brother was playing with the lighter. They were in the garage of the house. According to initial hypotheses, vapors would have formed and suddenly a spark or the flame of the lighter would have started a fire. It happened yesterday afternoon, around 4pm, in viale di Lares in Cordenons. The two boys were noticed by a neighbor as they ran away looking for space outside the semi-detached house, flames and smoke behind them. The eldest, 22 years oldhas reported first and second degree burns to the face and hands. He was transported by helicopter to the Cattinara hospital in Trieste. The minor, 16 years old, was unharmed, but he was still taken to the emergency room for checks. The case is being investigated by Flying Squad officers who intervened yesterday afternoon to reconstruct the domestic accident.
THE RESCUERS
It was she who called for help The female neighbour. It was 4pm. The Pordenone Fire Brigade sent to Cordenons a fire engine, two tankers, a ladder truck and the officer on guard. The garage was on fire, the two boys were already safe outside, while their parents were returning home. Some firefighters, equipped with self-protectors, began to attack the fire. The other colleagues took care of the two boys until the arrival of the healthcare personnel, who arrived in Vial di Lares with an ambulance and a medical vehicle. Rescuers focused on the 22-year-old, who had obvious signs of burns. He was conscious, but the resuscitation doctors, after evaluating his conditions, decided to intubate him and transport him to Trieste. The brother was examined, but his condition did not cause concern.
THE SWITCHING OFF
The fire brigade was involved in the extinguishing operations until eight in the evening. It was not easy to tame the flames that had crept into the corridor that provides access to the mezzanine floor of the house. The firefighters, who arrived in Cordenons in force, managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the upper floor. They attacked the fire from the garage and then from the upper floor until they managed to stop the fire. Then began the long work of clearing, clearing and making the house safe. The damage is extensive. The flames damaged the false ceiling of the garage and destroyed everything that was stored inside, even the two boys’ scooter, the smoke did everything else, even reaching the mezzanine floor. The causes of the fire are still being ascertained by the Fire Brigade, who must carry out further investigations, although from the testimonies collected it seems that the trigger can be identified in the lighter.
UNUSEABLE
The house was declared uninhabitable. Structural assessments will need to be carried out to understand the damage caused by the high heat. The consequences suffered by the electrical system must also be evaluated. The most serious damage would be limited to the garage and corridor, although the smoke also blackened the rooms on the mezzanine floor. At the moment the family has been able to find accommodation with relatives.
