The helicopter pilots of the Fire Brigade of the Catania Flight Department met teachers and students of the “Arturo Ferrarin” Aeronautical Technical Institute. Inside the great hall of the Catania Institute, the Fire Brigade – represented for the occasion by the head of the Flight Department Claudio Miano – exposed the various types of intervention and what the future job prospects are within the Fire Brigade. of Fire for those who obtain an aeronautical high school diploma.
The occasion of the meeting was proposed for the 70th anniversary of the birth in Modena of the first Flight Department of the Fire Brigade, a historical event celebrated during the debate with the viewing of images regarding the aerial component of the Fire Brigade which in Sicily – with location at the Fontanarossa airport – was inaugurated on 23 June 1982 with a flight line made up of AB 206 helicopters. Then various types of helicopters followed: AB 204 and AB 412, up to the current line use AW 139.
The Ferrarin Institute, led by the head teacher Dr. Patrizia Pittalá, is an excellence in aeronautical training and several awards have been achieved by the students of the Etna complex. Inside the Ferrarin Institute, the flight simulator, the only one present in a school in Sicily as it is ENAC certified, is a jewel of technology that allows students to improve their flight techniques in an almost real way, then put into practice during piloting hours carried out at Catania aeroclubs.
Aeronautical activities today represent important job prospects, whether they are linked to civil or rescue aspects, the meeting with the students was useful in providing them with valid exit orientation tools and in discovering the different professions of the fire brigade .
