ALTAVILLA VICENTINA (VI) – The firefighters worked all night to put out the devastating fire that broke out just before 10pm in Altavilla Vicentina.
A warehouse of the Imballaggi Materie Plastiche company caught fire, precisely the warehouse depot of primary products used for the processing of detergents in Via IV Novembre.
Fortunately no one was involved although the night shift workers were at work when the fire broke out.
The firefighters arrived from Vicenza and in reinforcement, from Arzignano, Lonigo, from Thiene with the volunteers, Verona and Rovigo with 5 fire engines, 4 tankers including a kiloliter tanker, 2 ladder trucks, the air truck and 37 operators, assisted by the officer on duty. After about three hours the fire was contained. The firefighters managed to contain the flames to a portion of the warehouse measuring over 4000 m2, avoiding a widespread fire.
The part of the warehouse structure affected by the fire collapsed, and with it several empty silos. The carabinieri, local police and ARPAV staff also arrived on site to carry out air sampling. Already in the morning the air quality situation returned to normal, while waste water reclamation operations carried out by a private company are underway.
The causes of the fire are being examined by the local fire brigade’s fire investigation unit.
