Me too’Arpavthe regional environmental agency of Veneto, intervened immediately last night at thefire which devastated the plastics company former Imp of Altavilla Vicentinaupon call from the fire brigade operations center and in support of the Municipality.

The technicians carried out some sampling of ambient air, both upwind and downwind, only finding insignificant traces of some organic pollutants typical of fires downstream. From the weather conditions after midnight the wind was extremely weak and coming from the South-East towards the North-West (the data were recorded in the Sant’Agostino weather station).

Already this morning, explains Arpav, in a note, the air quality situation has returned to normal. Criticism instead it turned out to be the management of firefighting water, which ended up in the surface water network due to the unavailability of storage in the existing tanks. The consequence was the run-off into surface waters: in short, the relevant bodies (Adriatic company and reclamation consortium) were informed.
Further investigations are underway on downstream water bodies this morning. The fire is over and consequently sampling repetitions are underway as per practice.

Flames, explosions and a collapsed warehouse at the former plant. Firefighters still at work
