LinkedIn opens up to games to increase time spent online

The social professional launches three “thought-oriented” game titles. The novelty also available in Italy

LinkedIn, the Microsoft-owned professional network, activates games within the application. The news had already appeared online weeks ago and is now confirmed with the debut of three pastime titles. Including Italy.
This is Pinpoint, a game in which you have to guess the theme that links a series of words together; Queens, a puzzle game that’s a cross between Sudoku and Minesweeper; and Crossclimb, which involves guessing a series of four-letter words and placing them in the correct order.

Increase time spent online

LinkedIn describes them as “thought-oriented games”, but it is clear that one of the unannounced objectives is to make members spend more time online. But in moderation: each game can only be opened once a day.
Players can share their scores with friends by updating their settings. On the model of ‘Wordle’, the title – a global success – acquired in 2022 by the New York Times.

“These games aren’t designed to be just a way to pass the time during the workday,” said Dan Roth, vice president of product at LinkedIn. “Rather, we want to foster an openness of thought and an increase in connections.”
