Public and participation of great occasions on April 30th for the 13thto Talamonese night which filled and livened up the center of the municipality of the lower valley. The race, organized by GP Talamona, was also valid as an individual and club road racing championship for the absolute and master categories.
More than 300 athletes in total engaged, in the various categories, on the challenging route which, starting and finishing in via Don Cusini, passed via Valenti, via Mazzoni, in front of the Church of San Carlo, returning along the central via Gavazzeni, turning around to the parish church of Santa Maria Nascente and the final climb back to via Don Cusini.
After the promotional tests reserved for rookies 5 and 8, space for rookies 10 where the ones who excel are, as often happens, Sofia Nani (AS Lanzada) and the CSI national cross champion Pietro Gosatti (GS CSI Tirano). In the boys and girls categories, a big party for the organizing association of the GP Talamona which celebrates the victories of its athletes Linda Mazzoni And Giuseppe Tirinzoni. In the cadets, GS Valgerola scored a double with Francesca Sassella And Giulia Suttiwhile in the cadets Thomas Tarca (GS CSI Morbegno) precedes Elia Ronchi (GS Valgerola) e Nicolò Picceni (AS Lanzada). The homegrown talent is unrivaled among the students Tabatha Spini (GP Talamona) who puts behind Asia Countess (GP Santi) ed Elisa Tarca (Atl. Lecco). Mattia Manenti he wins the students’ competition and becomes provincial champion. With him on the podium Filippo Giannoni (GS Valgerola) e Francesco Caligari (GS CSI Morbegno).
In the 3.7 km women’s race the star of Cristina Ballabio (Atl. Casone Noceto), this year silver medalist at the Italian master cross championships and the half marathon championships in the master 35 category, defeats the competition and wins with a gap of 14’45”, leaving the local at 45″ Cinzia Cucchi (Atl. Paratico) and at 1’07” Francesca Mottalini (Castelraider). The top five is completed by the Italian master 50 vice champion in the 10,000 meters on the track Cinzia Zugnoni (GS CSI Morbegno) and from Valchiavennasca Mariarosa Pighetti (Team Valtellina). Grand finale with the men’s 5 km race and here the script already seen at the Morbegnese Trophy on 25 April is repeated: after an initial study lap, the Talamonese Mattia Sottocornola (Atl. Lecco) and the captain of GP Santi Graziano Zugnoni they greet the company.
But Mattia, thanks to the home support and an excellent condition, already demonstrated in Morbegno 5 days earlier, presses on the accelerator and quickly overtakes Graziano, winner 3 days earlier at the Notturna dei palazzi Tirano. After the last solo lap, Sottocornola received warm applause from his fellow villagers and numerous fans and won in 15’56”, 28″ ahead of the always competitive Zugnoni who took part in all three rounds of the Valtellina grand slam of road racing (25 April in Morbegno, 27 April in Tirano and 30 April in Talamona).
The junior took the third step of the podium Lorenzo Tomera (GP Valchiavenna) author of an excellent performance and completing the top five Stefano Giugni (Castelraider) e Stefano Orio (GP Saints). We applauded along the route and to the visually impaired person at the finish line Giulio Gusmeroli (GP Talamona), accompanied by his teammate Alan Ciaponia great example of passion for sport: Giulio practices not only athletics, but also swimming and in addition to having won several CSI national titles in recent years, in his youth he participated in 4 Paralympics, winning the bronze medal in Los Angeles ’84 in the 5000 meters.
