Sudden illness in the barracks, 50 year old firefighter dies

He fell ill during the night between Sunday and Monday in the Lingotto fire station in Turin and died after about an hour at the Molinette hospital, where he had been admitted. The man, Samuele Del Minister, was 50 years old and originally from Pescia (Pistoia). In a note, colleagues from the Pistoia fire brigade command recall how Del Minister began his journey in the national fire brigade with military service, and then entered permanent service in 2001, precisely at the provincial command of Turin, from which he was then transferred to the command of Pistoia.

For about twenty years he served in the branch office of Montecatini Terme (Pistoia), specializing in alpine river speleo techniques and first aid medical techniques. He has participated in many emergency phases on the national territory: from the earthquake in L’Aquila, to the Costa Concordia accident on Giglio Island, up to the earthquake in central Italy. “A policeman always on the front line – we read again -, then the qualification passed to the role of team leader with assignment to the command of the Turin Fire Brigade and he would soon return to the provincial command of Pistoia. The Minister leaves behind his wife and two children.”
