Just over a month before the European elections, Ursula von der Leyen met with the leaders of Czech military industries.
It served to present her with a series of projects in support of Ukraine and suggest some useful strategies to promote the development of the sector: the representatives of the Czech military industries (Csg, Colt-Cz And Stv) appreciated the choice of Ursula von der Leyen who, engaged in the campaign for re-election to the presidency of the European Commission (a complicated undertaking: the first obstacle is found in some fringes of the EPP, the political force that expresses it), reached the Red Cout of Prague to meet them. Tomáš Zdechovský, Czech MEP from the Christian Democrats, invited her. Given the sensitivity of the topics under discussion, no other details are known about the contents of the meeting.
Csg, whose group also includes Fiocchi and Perazzi, is one of the main European companies involved in the supply of weapons and ammunition to the Ukrainian army with which it had been collaborating since 2018; from the time of Russia’s attack she needed just four days to complete her first wartime delivery.
David Štěpán, councilor of the CSG, said he has “much appreciated [la disponibilità] by Ursula von der Leyen”: the continental military industry, of which the Czech one constitutes a significant part, «represents one of the essential pillars for the protection of the democratic values on which the European Union is based»; the Czech Republic can in fact continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine only thanks to strong cooperation between the government and private companies.
