Fire in the center of Monopoli, building evacuated /VIDEO

The flames caused black, acrid smoke that made the air unbreathable in the entire area of the Sacred Heart church

Fear this afternoon around 2.30 pm in Monopoli, in the Bari area, due to a large fire that hit a commercial business. The flames broke out in via Colonnello Pasquale Camicia, at number 96 of a well-known hardware store, a reference point of sale for the nautical, shipbuilding and industrial sectors. Also due to the paints and resins kept inside the premises, a dense black cloud formed over the area of the Sacred Heart district, reaching, as we are in a central and residential area, other nearby areas. The building above the commercial activity was evacuated and many residents were forced to close their windows due to the unbreathable air. Numerous fire brigade teams from the Monopoli, Putignano and Bari detachments were on site. Three tankers and a 25 thousand liter tank set off from the capital to put out the flames. The local police closed the road to traffic. At the moment there are no injuries reported. The causes that caused the fire are yet to be clarified.
