New stage of the project to valorise the brothers’ frescoes Tommaso and Matteo Biazaci from Busca (Cn), scattered on the Ligurian and Piedmontese sides of the Maritime Alps. In fact, guided tours dedicated to school pupils return from 7 to 12 May, but also moments dedicated to the public, with cultural insights in some areas of the Imperia area including the Sanctuary of NS delle Grazie in Montegrazie, the Sanctuary of NS Assunta in Piani, and the Oratory of San Bernardino da Siena in Diano Castello.

In addition to school visits and extraordinary openings with visits, Formae Lucis will hold the following special guided tours for the public:

  • Sanctuary of NS delle Grazie di Montegrazie: Friday 10 May, 4.30 pm
  • Sanctuary of NS Assunta di Piani: Saturday 11 May, 3.30 pm
  • Oratory of San Bernardino da Siena in Diano Castello: Saturday 11 May, 5.30 pm

On Friday 10 May, in collaboration with the Association of Friends of the Sanctuary of Montegrazie, the conference “The painting of the Biazaci brothers in the Imperia area” will also take place at 6.00 pm, organized by Dr. Alfonso Sista, with Renaissance musical interludes performed by the Ensemble Giardino Antico. Participation is free.

Biazaz promotion events are held within the framework of the promotion project and enhancement of the frescoed walls carried out by Formae Lucis for 2024 and follows a first in-depth stage dedicated to the works of the Biazaci brothers in the Albenga area, which took place last April. At the center of attention are several parishes of the Diocese, extraordinarily open to be able to enjoy, through guided tours, the treasures of the territory signed by the Biazaci and some artists of their school.

The promotion project, strongly supported by Riccardo Badino of Fondazione Oddi, is shared by Formae Lucis and the municipalities of Busca, Albenga, Imperia and Diano Castello. The guided tours in May in the Imperia area are carried out in collaboration with the Friends of the Montegrazie Sanctuary Association and with the IIS Amoretti e Artistico.

“My thanks go to all the municipalities involved and to Riccardo Badino, creator of the initiative – these are the words of Castore Sirimarco, director of the Cultural Heritage Office – the Biazace itineraries take place in conjunction with the focus that Formae Lucis dedicates for this 2024 to the frescoed walls of our Diocese, often hidden masterpieces, and constitutes a precious in-depth study. The awareness that we have sought and are promoting on the topic has led to this beautiful collaboration: we are very happy that school children and young people can have access to itineraries to discover fifteenth-century frescoes. The collaboration with the institutes and teachers who have joined this initiative demonstrates the ability to create in-depth studies and educational activities dedicated to the valorization of the diocesan artistic heritage”.

On the occasion of Days for the promotion of ecclesiastical cultural heritagefrom 11 to 19 May 2024, Formae Lucis also organizes for Saturday 18 May special guided tours of the church of San Pantaleo di Ranzo (IM) and its fifteenth-century frescoes. The visits, lasting 40-50 minutes, will take place starting from 4.00 pm and, in the case of groups larger than 25 people, they will be repeated. To participate you must book by contacting the Diocesan Museum on the number 3478085811 or by email to [email protected]
