With the exception of Michelangelo Catricalà who made the presentation of his candidates immediately at the gazebos, during the collection of signatures in support of the citizens, Andrea Corsaro was the first to present, face by face, name by name, his list yesterday in a “Ridotto” of the Civic Center packed to capacity. Today, at 6pm, it will be the turn of Carlo Olmo, at Dugentesco, and tonight, at 9pm, the Forza Italia list (which supports Roberto Scheda’s candidacy for mayor) at Ascom.
Going back to yesterday, the presentation was sober and exemplary. While people were settling in the room, images of the projects carried out by the Corsaro administration (some are already completed, others in the home stretch) were scrolling on a video. Among the two recurring mottos in support of the outgoing mayor, one puts “the facts” in the foreground (completing the works worth 153 million euros already started, and starting new ones) while the other focuses on the “person” beyond the politics.
Before giving the floor to the thirty candidates present (out of thirty-two), Corsaro joked about the music that was playing in the room: the soundtrack of the film “Superman”. He said: “Pirates of the Caribbean didn’t seem right to me, and if we had chosen ‘Jaws’ someone might have thought of some other list.”
Then he gave the floor to all the candidates, who were very brief. Everyone explained the choice to support Corsaro with various reasons, but in all the interventions, both from the faithful (such as his current and former councillors) and from neophytes, that sense of solidarity towards a mayor unexpectedly expelled by the parties that for five years, objectively also with loyalty, they had supported him. These implicit thoughts were clearly explained by the Paralympic champion Claudio Costa and by the former police officer, who has been involved in volunteering for years, Carmelo Vitellini.
In the introduction, Corsaro had invited everyone not to be polemical, but the lawyer Luigi Michelini – the number one promoter of the Corsaro list – violated the instructions by apologizing and explicitly said: “We must send the turncoats home and ensure that whoever has been in opposition for five years should continue to do so.” The presentation closed in less than an hour. Everyone was satisfied with the timing, including journalists.
