This year too many vehicles have to provide the car inspection respecting the current legislation, which starting from 2024 has introduced some innovations in the control procedures. In this way the aim is to improve the review mechanism, which according to the experts themselves, due to the way it is structured, is of little or no use. For the rest, no further changes have been reported, although there are rumors of a new one increase in the ministerial rate of €8.70 linked to inflation. CAR INSPECTION: NEW 2024
As we were saying, from 2024 important changes have been introduced in the motor vehicle inspection procedureswhich they predict checks via the OBD port and error reading stored in the control unit if the MIL engine light stays on. Furthermore, for newer cars the communication of fuel consumption stored by the OBFCM control unit. These are innovations that will help combat fraud involving deducted kilometers and cars with efficiency and safety problems reported by on-board diagnostics. CAR INSPECTION: WHEN IT MUST BE DONE
Times and car inspection deadlines are regulated by article 80 of the Highway Code, made up of 17 paragraphs.
The one relating to cars is the paragraph 3which provides “for cars, for vehicles used for the transport of goods or for special use with a total mass when fully loaded not exceeding 3.5 t and for vehicles for mixed transport, the inspection within four years from the date of first registration and subsequently every two years”.
Limit going down to one year (paragraph 4) For “vehicles intended for the transport of people with more than nine seats including the driver’s seat; motor vehicles intended for the transport of goods or for special use with a total mass when fully loaded exceeding 3.5 t; trailers with a total weight at full load exceeding 3.5 t; taxis; ambulances; vehicles used for rental with driver; atypical vehicles”.
CAR INSPECTION 2024: DEADLINES
In light of this they must provide for car inspection in 2024:
- the vehicles mentioned in paragraph 3 of the art. 80 CdS, including motorcycles and mopeds, registered in 2020;
- the vehicles mentioned in paragraph 3 of the art. 80 CdS, including motorcycles and mopeds, subjected to last inspection in 2022;
- the vehicles mentioned in paragraph 4 of the art. 80 CdS.
There car inspection it must be done 4 years after the first registration within the month in which the registration certificate was issued. That every 2 years within the month in which the last inspection was carried out. For example, if a car was registered in 2020 with the registration certificate issued on 5 November, the inspection must be done by 30 November 2024. And the next by 30 November 2026. In any case, to avoid mistakes, the deadlines must always be calculated from the date of the last inspection appearing on the inspection certificate.
CAR INSPECTION: OTHER INFORMATION
We remember that theart. 80 CdS paragraphs 5 and 7 also provides for extraordinary revisions for individual vehicles”if doubts arise about the persistence of the prescribed safety, noise and pollution requirements” And “in the event of a road accident in which motor vehicles or trailers have suffered serious damage as a result of which doubts may arise about the safety conditions for circulation” (in both cases by order of the competent offices of the Department for Land Transport, following a report from the traffic police). In any case the extraordinary inspection does not exempt the owner from the obligation to periodically or annually inspect the vehicleunless the audit expires in the same year as the extraordinary one. It is useless to remember that the car inspection is mandatory even if the car is not circulating but parked on public roads (exactly like the RC car).
CAR REVIEW 2024: PRICE
The increase in the car inspection fee came into force on 1 November 2021, so the cost of periodic vehicle checks in authorized centres it rose from the previous 66.88 to the current one 78.75 eurosdetailed as follows:
54.95 euros: cost of the inspection;
12.09 euros: VAT at 22%;
10.20 euros: Motorization rights;
1.51 euros: cost of the PagoPA slip (the amount of the slip may vary by a few decimals depending on the service provider).
Important: the 2021 increase does not apply to inspections carried out directly at the company’s offices Motorizationwhose rate remains blocked at 45.00 euros. However, the carrying out of vehicle inspections at the DMV is currently suspended.
A. could take over during 2024 new increase of 8.70 euros of the cost of car inspection in authorized centres, thus bringing the rate at 87.45 euros. At the moment this increase is not yet confirmed.
Anyone who drives with an expired inspection risks a fine ranging from 173 to 694 euros. This sanction can be doubled in the event of an inspection omitted more than once in relation to the deadlines established by the provisions in force. In addition to the financial penalty, the traffic ban until inspection has been carried out. Anyone who drives during this suspension risks a fine of between 1,998 and 7,993 euros plus administrative detention for 90 days and, in the event of repeated violations, confiscation of the vehicle. The presentation of a falsified inspection to the inspection bodies ultimately entails a fine of between 430 and 1,731 euros and the withdrawal of the registration certificate or DU.
