Elections in Venezuela, Maduro collapses in the polls

(ANSA) – CARACAS, APRIL 30 – The main representative of the opposition in Venezuela, Edmundo González Urrutia, has an overwhelming advantage over Nicolás Maduro, in view of the presidential elections on 28 July: this was revealed by a survey conducted by the Venezuelan institute Meganazionalis. Urrutia – chosen instead of the opposition leader, Maria Corina Machado, who was unable to run because she was banned from holding public office for 15 years – obtained 32.4% of voting intentions against 11.2% of current president.

33.1% said they didn’t know who they would vote for and 19.3% said they wouldn’t vote for anyone. According to the survey, 53.2% declared that they did not know Urrutia, which could mean that preferences for him could grow further. The poll also showed that Machado is considered by 75.9% of respondents to be the most credible and reliable politician in the country, while only 6.1% trust Maduro. If she were to contest the elections, 75.4% of those interviewed would vote for her, compared to just 8.6% of those who would choose the ‘Chavista’ leader. (HANDLE). .
