For the roundabout and safety measures at the “death” intersection of via Pontina Vecchia in Ardea, intersection with via Pescarella and via Strampelli there is no money. Metropolitan City, which owns that stretch of road, has informed the Municipality of Ardea that it has no resources for the work.
It’s the intersection where On March 28, little seven and a half year old Queen Pietra lost her life and, a year and a half before, Chiara Costantini, aged 43, died on 25 July 2022. Precisely on that occasion the municipal administration had asked for the intersection to be made safe, receiving a no.
«It is an intersection that presents various problems of visibility, speed and above all it is a dark intersection in all respects, because both the semi-curve is present and during the night there is no type of lighting», said in the city council the mayor Fabrizio Cremonini responding to a question from the opposition.
«Therefore we immediately worked with the Metropolitan City, which unfortunately, as often happens, simply replied that due to lack of funds there was no possibility of intervening».

The solution
«We have offered our collaboration to this, taking part in finding the funds with Astral, which manages the section of the provincial road, and as far as the Municipality is concerned, it had made itself available to possibly carry out an expropriation for the construction of a roundabout and on the part of the Metropolitan City we simply asked for a design. Unfortunately, all this did not happen and we are faced with a new fatal accident.”
Now it seems something is moving, but another death was needed. «At this moment the Metropolitan City has given an opening and they have made themselves available for the design of that stretch and also, possibly, for an economic participation in designing the roundabout, which currently seems the simplest and most immediate method to intervene, in addition to insert noise strips and light signals in the sections preceding the intersection, both towards Latina and towards Rome, to signal the intersection”, concluded the mayor.
