LIGNANO SABBIADORO (UDINE) – II smoke visible from kilometers away and the flames: fear in Lignano due to a fire at the Marina Uno hotel overlooking the dock. What caught fire was the bar restaurant Newport adjacent to the hotel structure. In a few minutes the flames spread across the entire surface of the wooden roof of the room, devouring it completely. Two people were rescued due to fume inhalation and taken to hospital. The scene was filmed by several witnesses, who were near the fire at the time.

What happened

The alarm went off around 1pm today, Monday 29 April, when several people contacted 115 to report the dense cloud of black smoke rising upwards. Several calls reached the switchboard of the operations room of the Udine Fire Brigade at that moment, informing of a high column of smoke coming from a hotel in Viale Adriatico in Lignano. There black cloud was visible for kilometers away so much so that reports also came from nearby Veneto as well as from the entire lower Friuli area. And in a short time they bounced around various social groups. The teams from Latisana and Lignano intervened immediately on site with fire engines and tankers and, from the headquarters in Udine, with the ladder truck. Given the vast dimensions of the fire, the support of the team from the Portogruaro (VE) detachment was also requested, which was then sent back because it was not necessary.

Two injured by fire fumes

Fortunately, the tragedy was avoided and none of the people present in the vicinity of the structure affected by the fire suffered serious consequences. The hotel is currently closed and for sale in a judicial auction. But at the time of the fire there were ten people present inside the restaurant to carry out maintenance work in view of the next opening. All ten of them, when they realized that the roof was burning, came out independently. Only two people had to seek medical attention after inhaling combustion fumes.

Fire at the bar in Lignano, the causes

The extinguishing and reclamation operations of the burned area occupied the fire brigade teams for several hours, who, having extinguished the flames, proceeded to make the entire place safe. On site, within their jurisdiction, the Carabinieri and Local Police. As soon as the structure is accessible, an attempt will be made to shed light on the causes that sparked the flames by reducing the entire roof of the bar restaurant to rubble.
