Genoa. An academic Senate first moved from 9am to 3pm and then, with new communication, transformed from meeting in presence into one video conference. This is what happened today at the University of Genoa while pro-Palestine students of the Cambiare Rotta collective they had organized two meetings (following the time shift) to ask for a discussion with the Academic Senate on the issue that is inflaming universities around the world: that of the collaboration of universities with the “world of war”, primarily with Israel. Today’s protest in particular was aimed at ask that “the university interrupts any internship connected with the war supply chain such as Mare Aperto and that the university presidents involved in such agreements take a public position.”
And the students they accuse the rector Federico Delfino of having avoided the confrontation: “Delfino knows very well how dangerous dissent is not only for those in his position but for the entire imperialistic and warmongering system of which he chooses to promote, and for this reason he decides to play this game” writes the Cambiare collective Broken in a note in which he recalls that “all of Italy is mobilizing alongside Palestine and to interrupt the dangerous collaborations between the world of academia and that of war. In many other universities such as UniTo and UniBa, victories and responses have been obtained which make us understand that winning is possible, even if the same type of resolution is slow to arrive here”.
The students reiterate that “the mobilization and academic boycott do not stop” and ask for a “conversation with the Senate in an extraordinary session to be called as soon as possible”.
