South Vietnamese troops urge some Ho Chi Minh citizens to move to another part of the city to try to keep them away from attacks by North Vietnamese forces. In the desperate race they undertook in May 1968 they encountered some Viet Cong corpses lying on the ground, during the so-called Tet offensive. In the context of the Vietnam War, in that year the Viet Cong army launched an offensive in several cities across the country with the intention of weakening the South Vietnamese side supported by the armed forces of the United States of America. While the attack ended with a disastrous strategic result for the North Vietnamese communists, many historians consider it a tactical victory. American losses were very high, which led public opinion in the North American country to turn against the war, and this event was seen as the beginning of the victory that the communist forces would achieve in the long term.
