First Category: only Promosport wins. Garibaldina reached the closing credits

Lamezia Terme – Sunday between lights and shadows for the four local First Category teams. The result is, in fact, one success, two draws and one defeat. But let’s go into detail starting, as always, from group B. Larga (4-0) setback for Pianopoli at the home of bottom team Cutro. The rossoblù, already cut off from the play-off games for a few weeks, suffer the most “hungry” of the Crotones who, thanks to these three points, close to -2 from the San Mauro Marchesato – Garibaldina pair. All this when there are only 90 minutes left in the regular season. Second consecutive kappaò, as well as third in the last four outings, for the Pianopoletans who drop from seventh to eighth place. This is the line-up fielded yesterday by Mr. Scerbo on the field of the hamlet of San Leonardo di Cutro: Stranieri, Giudice (30’st Gullo), Kablì Ab., Talarico, Calidonna, De Fazio, Andreaggi, Morelli, Ianni B., Angotti (1′ st Gualtieri), Salerno (1’st Trapuzzano).

Fourth useful result in the last five days for FC San Mango who return with one point from San Giovanni in Fiore, where they faced the Stelle Azzurre Silana, sixth force in the group. The 0-0 draw against “Valentino Mazzola” allows the biancazzurri to rise to 23 points, securing fifth-last place. Salvation, it is now mathematically certain, will however have to go through the internal play-out against whoever finishes in the penultimate position. The first half was very competitive in the middle of the pitch, with some interesting action on both sides. A clear one happened to Perri A. who, face to face with the Sila goalkeeper, had the latter’s shot deflected with her foot. In the second half the hosts tried to force it, with the Sanmanghesi gritting their teeth while trying, at the same time, to make themselves dangerous in two or three situations. “Unfortunately – said Mr. Neri – the numerous and heavy absences complained of up front had a significant impact on us during the implementation phase. We will have to play in the play-outs which we will play at home anyway. I’ll stop here, preferring not to say anything about the results achieved in these last few days on the other fields. FC San Mango certainly earned their 23 points on the pitch, fighting with their own strength.” Below is the starting eleven sent onto the field yesterday by Mr. Neri in Sila: Vecchio, Curcio G. (30’st Amato), Vaccaro, Pasqua, Saggio, Bruno, Ferlaino, Gigliotti, Perri N. (35’st Curcio L .), Fuda, Perri A. (25’st Torchia)

The draw (1-1) obtained by Garibaldina within friendly walls was decidedly more bitter. The Giallorossi produced an excellent performance in the presence of vice-leader Silana, calling the opposing goalkeeper into overtime several times and hitting the woodwork three or four times. On the other hand, there were just a couple of opportunities given to the Cosenza players: one in the first half and the other in the second 45′, when Caruso was good at blocking. The initial tie was broken in the 20th minute of the second half: Crapella’s through ball to Chiodo who outpaced his direct opponent and, just inside the area, put it hard under the crossbar. Twelfth goal of the season for the former Sambiase winger who makes the difference in this category. However, it was not enough to bring home the entire prize given that, in the penultimate of the final 8′ of injury time, Silana equalized with Maione on a free kick awarded by the referee Miglionico di Paola and decidedly contested by the locals. This is the Garibaldina lined up yesterday at “Leo” by Mister Raso: Caruso, Bonacci M. (30’st Buso), Granieri, Piacente, Zappa, Pascuzzi, Caparello, Diallo, Bonacci F., Crapella, Chiodo.

Let’s move to group C where Promosport returns to victory, after two consecutive draws, conquering the “Curto” of Catanzaro Lido thanks to Russo’s third goal of the season. This is enough to beat a Martelletto Settingiano who remains fifth from last together with Montepaone. The ranking of Lameto does not change either, still fourth at -4 from Parghelia, who easily got rid of bottom-placed Real Mileto. Despite the absences of Mercurio, Costanzo and De Sio, and a Strangis who is not at his best and therefore started from the bench, Mister Notaris’ boys are following in the wake of the top three and are now almost certain of access to the play-offs. The hosts started better: first they chipped the crossbar with a shot from distance and then, again with a shot from outside, they found the deflection off Cullice’s upright. Promosport, however, was dangerous with a header from Piacente, blocked for a corner by the goalkeeper, and with a weak attempt from a tight angle by Vaccaro. At 20′ of the second half the biancazzurri found the decisive goal with an amazing free kick from Russo: an unstoppable trajectory, the one designed by the former Vigor and Atletico striker Maida, with the ball slipping under the top corner.
