Pro Vita in clinics and hospitals, the opposition in Liguria ask not to apply the decree
Descriptive text here

An agenda to ask the Liguria Region not to apply the rule included in the Pnrr decree which provides for the possibility of authorizing the presence of Pro-life associations in clinics. This is what all the opposition councilors asked for in the regional council. The document also asks the president of the council, Giovanni Toti, and to the councillor Angelo Gratarola, to express its dissent towards the legislation in the conference of the regions and to strengthen investments in family counseling centers, “despite the missing transfers and state underfunding”. The hope of the councilors is to be able to discuss the document already in tomorrow’s voting session.

The leader of the PD and first signatory of the initiative, Luca Garibaldi, notes that “the right has launched an attack on the heart of law 194 and that is on women’s right to self-determination and to the informed and conscious choice of motherhood”. For the dem, “what the presence of these associations in the clinics means is evident: this is demonstrated by the complaint in recent days in Aosta, where reports have arrived from women who, having arrived at public health centers in the regional territory to access the interruption voluntary pregnancy, were subjected to undue interference and pressure from volunteers, consisting in requiring them to listen to the fetal heartbeat or in the promise of financial support or consumer goods, with the specific intent of dissuading them from choosing to have an abortion”.

Garibaldi also attacks the governor who, in his opinion, is guilty of having “immediately stated that he is ready to apply the law, but that the anti-abortion associations must enter the clinics, yes but with moderation. A pathetic and Pilatesque position”. The dem adds in this regard that “Don Abbondio said ‘courage, if one doesn’t have it, he can’t give it. He spoke about himself because he didn’t know Toti, moderate only in words, liberal when it suits him, but always ready to put yourself at the service of the powerful of the moment and of the most retrogressive and obscurantist right”.

Liguria was also one of the first regions where Fratelli d’Italia had already presented a regional law proposal for some time to include Pro Vita associations in hospitals and clinics. The bill was stopped waiting for government interventions, now after the national law the proponent Stefano Ballearihas already made it known that the process of the regional law will restart as soon as possible.
