The Civic Observatory, represented by the president Salvo Sorbello, his deputy Donatella Lo Giudice and the coordinator of the technical-scientific committee Franco Cirillo, was received by the Prefect of Syracuse Raffaela Moscarella.
During the meeting, issues regarding health services and the construction of the new hospital were addressed.
The Prefect illustrated important initiatives regarding real social emergencies, especially in the province of Syracuse.
He underlined the relevance of the “Ask for Lucia” project, promoted with the Police Force, the ASP and with the collaboration of the most representative trade associations of commerce and industry, to protect those who find themselves in a dangerous situation .
Furthermore, he insisted on the need to strengthen a virtuous collaboration between the police force, the business community and the population and in this context the active involvement of citizens can provide a valid contribution, with the aim of increasing a culture of legality and the protection of fragile people, especially for the fight against and prevention of gender violence.
It was agreed on the extreme need to support serious and shared systemic action to highlight and combat the phenomenon of intra- and extra-family violence to the detriment of women.
During the meeting, emphasis was also placed on the seriousness of school dropout in Syracuse and on the opportunity to develop a common strategy between the institutions, with the active collaboration of civic associations, for the prevention of the phenomenon.
For their part, the representatives of the Civic Observatory thanked the Prefect for the sensitivity and determination he is demonstrating in dealing with very burning problems and illustrated the activity carried out by the association, especially aimed at raising awareness in the local community on issues of social, economic and cultural, strengthening social ties within the local community.
The agreements already stipulated by the Civic Observatory with Anci Sicily and with the Medical Association of Syracuse and those that will be finalized in the next few days, intend precisely to contribute to weaving a new thread of active citizenship, participation, subsidiarity, with a truly innovative action by civil society, which starts from the bottom and builds civic capital, aiming at the common good.
