He passed away at the age of 81, following a short illness, Gianpietro Benedetti, Friulian entrepreneur whose name is closely linked to that of the Danieli Group of Buttrio (Udine).
Benedetti was for many years at the helm of the company, one of the world leaders in the design and construction of steel plants and among the top three European steel producers, which alone is worth 40% of the exports of the province of Udine and 20% of that of the entire Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Gianpietro Benedetti he had started working in the Danieli Group as a technical designer, in the early 1960s, and then rose through the company’s ranks to become president. “The first day I was sent home because I hadn’t brought my compasses with me,” the entrepreneur had once said.

After joining the Danieli Group in 1961, Benedetti worked as a technical designer for several years, before become project manager of small plantsa job thanks to which he toured the world for another 5 years.

After this experience, at the age of 30 Benedetti first became responsible for the calibration rolling technologies office for the definition of plant layouts and then, in 1976, also technical sales manager of the sales office (of which he will then assume the technical direction).
A path of work and sacrifice, which led Benedetti, in 1986, to become general director of the Group under the presidency of Cecilia Danieli and then, upon the woman’s death in 1999, hold the role of president and CEO.
The condolences of the business world
Benedetti was named Cavaliere del Lavoro in 2006 and had received two honorary degrees in engineering and an honorary MBA diploma. In 2023 he had also received honorary citizenship of Udine.
