CAMPI BISENZIO – “Awarded” by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella. They are the students of the second C of the Matteucci school – Istituto comprensivo Montalcini of Campi Bisenzio appointed yesterday as Standard Bearers of the Republic by the highest office of the State who implemented, as underlined by the director of the Comprehensive, Francesco Giari, a citizen’s report regarding the efforts made by the students in those days. Recognition that will be officially presented to the children in May “for the civil commitment demonstrated during the flood emergency”. In November, in fact, when the flood waters hit the area hard, the Campigian students did not hesitate, like many other young people, to do their part to revive the community and the places where their daily lives take place. On that occasion, organizing themselves, they worked with a great sense of responsibility and solidarity and “in difficulty – we read in the motivation – they supported each other and not only in the school premises: many in fact hosted classmates at home forced to abandon their homes because they were flooded.”

The title of “Bishop of the Republic”, established in 2010, is reserved for young people up to the age of 18 who have distinguished themselves in study, in cultural, scientific, artistic, sporting activities, in volunteering or who have performed inspired acts or adopted behaviors with a civic sense, altruism and solidarity. Twenty-nine of those nominated this year (the maximum is thirty), the “collective” plaques went instead to the 5A class of the primary school – Trasacco Comprehensive Institute (Aquila) for the strength of their friendship; to classes 5AS, 5BS, 5AC – Antonio Segni scientific and classical high school, Ozieri (Sassari) for their testimony of solidarity; and, indeed, to class 2C Matteucci school – Montalcini comprehensive institute of Campi Bisenzio, a “genna” for the entire community left affected by the fury of the water.

“We are honored as the Municipality of Campi Bisenzio – said the mayor Andrea Tagliaferri – of this important recognition by the President of the Republic, the help of all the spontaneous volunteers during the flood emergency was decisive in getting out of that dramatic event. Today the Campi community, after what happened and the support from all the young generations, is more united and cohesive”. “We are proud of this important achievement,” added the vice-mayor and councilor for public education Federica Petti – the school once again confirms itself as the hub of our community. The boys and girls are the future of Campi and this fills our hearts with hope and trust because we are certain that they will be the active citizens who will revolutionize this world”.
