MONREALE, 28 April – In the presence of the President of the Region, Renato Schifani, and the general manager of the regional department, Salvo Cocina, the third joint Civil Protection exercise dedicated to forest and interface firefighting took place yesterday in the Casaboli forest.
The same activities had already taken place in recent days in the provinces of Catania and Messina. For the municipality of Monreale, the mayor, Alberto Arcidiacono and the president of the municipal council, Marco Intravaia, were present.
“The aim of these exercises – states a note from the department – is to test in the field the level of training and operation achieved by the specialized volunteers in the AIB and, at the same time, also to encourage a common line of conduct among all the bodies operatives involved in the various activities of forecasting, combating and managing emergencies related to fire risk: Forestry Corps of the Sicily Region, Fire Brigade, Regional Department of Sicilian Civil Protection”.
“This one in Palermo – continues the note – was the last of the three planned joint forces exercises. Casaboli was chosen because the site was suitable for carrying out both training activities on techniques for combating forest fires, but also for forest fires interface, given the presence of buildings near which it is possible to simulate such scenarios.
The fire brigade and forestry teams led the fire tests of the volunteers (around 200) from Palermo, Agrigento and Trapani. Furthermore, in the afternoon, the final briefing took place to which mayors, administrators and technicians from local authorities were invited.
