The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has chosen the new Standard Bearers of the Republic. The Quirinale awarded 29 certificates of honour.
Among the winners is Sebastiano Guazzeroni, the child hero who saved his father from death at 8 years old. “For the courage shown, despite his very young age, in the face of the illness reported by his father. Thanks to the promptness with which he faced the emergency, he managed to prevent a walk in the woods from ending in tragedy”, writes the Quirinale. And again: “Sebastiano was walking in the woods of Umbria with his father. One of the many excursions they used to make together. Suddenly, in the middle of the walk, Sebastiano’s father felt ill and fainted. The child, frightened but lucid, he thought it best to go back along the path he had taken and, after a run of almost two kilometres, he finally met some people who helped him activate the rescue services useful time and that his father was able to avoid serious consequences.”
