The girl from Montemurlo among the Standard Bearers of the Republic after volunteering during the November floods in Tuscany: «I did it for myself, for people like me. It seemed normal to me.”

«I did it for me, for people like me. It seemed normal to me.” Her name is Ginevra Minetti is 17 years old and he is among the young people awarded by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella for his commitment during the days of the flood in Tuscany last November.

The young woman, named «Standard of the Republic», on the night between 2 and 3 November he was in his home in Montemurlo when a flow of water and mud devastated the homes not far away. He spent that night helping his parents put up buckets because it was raining from the roof. But from the next morning she wore the uniform of the Mercy of which she has been a volunteer since she was 16: «I went from house to house between Montemurlo and Bagnolo, asking who needed my help. I shoveled a lot of mud in those days».

Alfiere’s recognition is also linked to the searches for two missing elderly people – later found dead – in which Ginevra collaborated. «For me the news came completely unexpectedly: so many months had passed, I would never have imagined it”, says the young woman.

«She took part in the search for some missing people and dedicated herself tirelessly to welcoming the many displaced people to whom she never failed to give a reassuring smile», read the reasons given by the Quirinale. Radiant, the national president of the Misericordie, Domenico Giani: «What Ginevra has done moves us, makes us happy and gives us hope for the future. His young age, in fact, makes everything even more important. We are honoured, it is a tribute to her and ideally to all our volunteers.”

The Presidency of the Republic also awarded with a plaque «for civil commitment in emergencies» class 2C of the Matteucci school in Campi Bisenziowhose students worked to clean the institute of water and mud.
