The words of the producer

This is the regular customer of Moe’s Tavern, Larry. Tim Long, executive producer of the long-running animated sitcom, told TMZ that the creative team intended hit the audience hard with the death of Larry “The Barfly” Dalrymple, although Dalrymple never had a major moment on the show.

Larry was a background character in the series, first appearing in 1989, during the first season, and mostly in Moe’s Tavern, near Homer Simpson and his friends. Every now and then, he utters a line or two.

Long said it didn’t matter how small Larry’s role was, because characters on The Simpsons don’t die often, so it’s a major event when it happens. Long added that he felt sorry for the fans who were upset by the death and sadness of the episode in general, but admitted that he appreciated the fact that they seemed to take it as badly as Homer and the gang did during the episode, because it shows how much he show is still very loved.

Additionally, the producer jokingly said that Flintstones fans wouldn’t be scared if the series eliminated the reviled Big Gazoo character, and that it’s nice to know that audiences care about all the characters that make Springfield what it is. Despite this, Long urged people to stop fretting, because it’s not like they killed off a major character like Barney or Moe.

While it may take fans some time to get over Larry’s death, at least those working behind the scenes on the show couldn’t be happier about it. We remind you that the series has been renewed until 2025.
