Saluggia: Gradina, a pillar of the Meeting Center

Gradina Basso was one of those women who gave all her time to the world of volunteering, especially to the Saluggia Open Centre. And she, for many years, was in fact one of the pillars of this group which is based in the municipal premises in via Senatore Giovanni Faldella. She organized the members’ afternoons and organized numerous card competitions. She was truly active as remembered by the many who attended the Saluggio club in those years.

But Gradina was also very active in the Vita Tre association today chaired by Marco Formica. In fact, she took part in various events such as association lunches and dinners and then also in the pinochle competition. She really liked to sit at the table and play cards. Her presence at tournaments such as the one on the occasion of the Patronal Festival of San Grato is unmissable. She was a certainty.

And Formica also remembers how many times he participated in the tournaments that saw the Saluggio association compete against other realities. He remembers, for example, when Gradina was part of the team at the race that took place in Viverone.

«About twenty days ago she came to us – remembers Formica – Every Saturday we play cards and she has always been there».

A woman of heart

«Mom was a person loved by everyone with a heart of gold – says her daughter Maura Rione – A super wonderful person. In the courtyard where she lived, everyone loved her, everyone told us that they will miss her very much. And we too will miss her like air: we were always with her morning and afternoon. We didn’t leave her alone for even a moment.”

Gradina was a truly very special woman, a hard worker. For many years, until her retirement, she had in fact worked on the brick band in the Torrazza Piemonte brickyard. A hard job but one that she has always carried out without complaining, with great professionalism.

«Mother liked to dance and party as well as volunteering at the Open Center» her daughter still remembers.

Gradina passed away at the age of 90, leaving her children Giovanna with Demetrio, Valerio with Beatrice, Natalina with Antonio, Maura with Graziano, her sister Mariuccia and her brother Romano.
