American intelligence has determined that the Russian president Vladimir Putinin all likelihood, did not order the timing of the Kremlin dissident’s deathAlexei Navalny, who lost his life on February 16th while locked up in a Russian penal colony. The Wall Street Jorunal writes this, quoting people informed about the facts. While the assessment did not dispute Putin’s culpability for the death, it found that the timing was perhaps not as expected by the Russian president, the WSJ says, adding that the finding is widely accepted within the intelligence community and shared by several agencies, including the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the intelligence unit of the State Department. Some European intelligence agencies were informed of the assessment by the American services.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he had seen the Wall Street Journal’s material on American intelligence conclusions about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s non-involvement in the death of Alexei Navalny and said that this material is “not very important”. “I have seen this material, I would not say that it is high quality material that deserves some attention. These are, I would say, very empty topics, apparently they were published for Saturday reading for a global audience,” Peskov said, as reported by Ria Novosti.
