In the picturesque setting of Barcis, the “Mountain School – Friulian Dolomites” began, a training project that stands out for its innovative approach to educating adults and young people. This initiative sees its first edition of twelve free courses that aim to provide in-depth knowledge of the mountain environment and its potential.
The objectives of the project
The objective of the school is not only educational but also aims to stimulate the socio-economic development of the Highlands, areas particularly affected by phenomena of depopulation and employment crisis. “We want to offer concrete tools for the relaunch of these areas, through education and innovation,” said Dino Salatin, president of the Magnifica Comunità delle Dolomiti Friulane.
The program and the participants
The courses, which last a week, include 44 hours of practical lessons focused on agri-food and strategies for enhancing local products. The participants, young graduates residing in the mountain community area, will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in workshops, seminars and guided tours, enriching their training path with real networking and personal development opportunities.
The support of the University of Udine
The University of Udine plays a key role in the project, extending its educational commitment not only to Barcis but to the entire regional Alpine area. “The university is enthusiastic about contributing to this project, which fits perfectly into our mission of supporting local communities,” commented Mauro Pascolini, scientific coordinator of the course.
Future perspectives
With the support of the National Strategy for Internal Areas and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, eleven other courses are expected to be held over the next year, each focused on specific themes ranging from entrepreneurship to sustainable tourism.
The course will conclude with a ceremony on Saturday 4 May, where participants will present the group work developed during the week. This event will represent not only the end of the training course but also the beginning of new opportunities for young people who, it is hoped, will be the future promoters of development in their communities.
