Also this year, the “Ercole Olivario” competition rewarded the excellence of Italian olive oil production, with particular attention to DOP and IGP products

L’extra virgin olive oil it is one of the culinary excellences of our territory, loved all over the world (and far too imitated!).

To celebrate this excellent production of the Italian culinary tradition there are numerous competitions, at national and global level – such as the Ercole Olivariowhich reached its XXXII edition this year.

Competition

The competition is organized by the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture, in close collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Umbria, the Ministry of Agriculture, the ICE Agency, and with the support of UNAPROL Consorzio Olivicolo Italian, Italia Olivicola and CREA.

Like every year, the objective is to discover and reward the excellence of Italian olive production, with particular attention to DOP/IGP certified extra virgin oils (which compete in a separate category from non-certified extra virgin oils).

The 2024 edition rewarded well 12 prestigious labels divided into categories that enhance the variety and organoleptic peculiarities of the extra virgin olive oil.

Furthermore, we remember a “side” section of the national competition, introduced with the aim of supporting small Italian oil producers, which have a limited production: “The Drop of Hercules – Small Production Award”.

Dop/Igp category Medium fruity

  • 1st Place – Colleruita DOP Umbria Colli Assisi – Spoleto from the Viola company of Foligno (Pg), Umbria
  • 2nd place – Brioleum Garda DOP Trentino from the Brioleum farm in Arco (Tn), Trentino Alto Adige
  • 3rd Place – Agrestis Nettaribleo DOP/BIO DOP Monti Iblei – Monte Lauro sub-area of ​​the Agrestis agricultural cooperative society of Buccheri (Sr), Sicily

Dop/Igp category Intense fruity

  • 1st Place – Hirpinia DOP Irpinia – Colline dell’Ufita from the San Comaio company of Zungoli (Av), Campania
  • 2nd place – ORGANIC BIO IGP Toscano from Frantoio Franci di Montenero (Gr), Tuscany

The Drop of Hercules Section – Small Productions Award

  • 1st place: the agricultural company Vincenzo Signorelli & Partners Srl with the PGI Sicilia Foglie di Platino – Biancolilla Bio Premier Cru oil
  • 2nd place: the Casa Grazia winery of Francesco Maria Grazia with the DOP Involio oil obtained from the Nocellara del Belice cultivar
  • 3rd place: the Sikulus agricultural company with the DOP Don Peppino oil.
