The healthcare of the future is taking shape

ROVIGO – An opportunity for everyone but, above all, a real revolution. In recent days, the progress of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan in the field of healthcare was presented at the conference of mayors of Polesine.

And, as the general director of Ulss 5 Pietro Girardi underlined, “the patient and all citizens are always at the center, but today they will be at the center of a system where the potential of digitalisation, from the telemedicinethe proximity of services will be able to improve access, quality, efficiency and sustainability of the national healthcare system”.

Among the projects financed and illustrated to the mayors there are, first of all, the three community hospitals of Rovigo, Trecenta and Adria: for a total of 70 beds and an investment of approx two million euros: these are health facilities – in Adria and Trecenta already active, but which are enjoying adaptations and modernizations (work will start in Rovigo in May) – which offer health care with light intensity of care and are aimed at taking care of patients with chronic pathologies or frailty, which strengthen intermediate care, in collaboration with hospital services, general practitioners, families, social assistance and caregivers.

The investment in community homes is also notable for Polesine which – as the general director specifies – “are strategically placed, taking into account the needs and specificities of the territory”. There will be five: Rovigo (social health citadel, start of works in September), Badia Polesine (works started last 8 April), Castelmassa (start of works last 8 April), Porto Tolle and Adria (for both, works will start next month of May). The amount financed with Pnrr funds is almost 8 million euros.

To the mayors of Polesine, the management and the professionals dThe Ulss 5 Polesana company also specifically explained the functioning of the services that will be activated. The community homes will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will offer local health and social-health services to the population (general practitioners, continuity of care, specialist clinics to give a few examples).

Two territorial operations centers are being activated, for a total amount of 409 thousand euros, in Rovigo and Adria, structures that carry out a coordination function in taking care of the person and connecting the services and professionals involved: territorial, health and socio-health, hospital activities and dialogue with the emergency-urgency network. “The operations centers were established to ensure access to healthcare services in a timely and appropriate manner, reduce waiting times and improve the quality of healthcare services offered to patients. They will guarantee the centralization of telemedicine activities, in particular the telemonitoring of the parameters of chronic and follow-up patients, to manage any evolution of the pathology on the basis of shared controls”, explained general director Girardi.

But to enjoy the benefits of the Pnrr, it won’t just be local healthcare: in fact, the technological and digital modernization of hospitals will also be financed with the replacement of large healthcare equipment and the digitalisation of hospitals with particular reference to IT security in order to adopt innovative and technologically advanced solutions to improve the efficiency of care levels and adapt structures and organizational models to international security standards.

The amount for digital modernization, already started for laboratory analysis services, Suem 118, Pma and pathological anatomy, is 7 million euros. The start of the modernization will follow, between the end of this year and 2025, also for the radiology, transfusion and drug logistics services.

The replacement of large healthcare equipment in hospitals, of the total value of seven and a half million euros, it has already seen the installation and testing of two nuclear accelerators, two fixed radiological systems (a third in the testing phase), a Spect CT and a mammograph.
