Today, at 9.30 am, the operations center of the Messina Fire Brigade received a request from the NUE (Single Emergency Number) to rescue a person in an inaccessible area in the Alcantara gorges in the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Francavilla di Sicilia.
A fire brigade team from the Letojanni detachment was sent immediately and as a precaution also a fire brigade helicopter, “Drago 148” with air rescue personnel from the helicopter unit of Fontanarossa Catania.
The air rescuers reached the injured person, an elderly person, placing him and immobilizing him on a stretcher which, using the winch supplied with the helicopter, was hoisted on board and transferred immediately to the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania for checks and the appropriate treatments.
