Only five days, that’s how long little Sabreen Jouda survived, her immune system was too weak. Despite the doctors’ attempts, her baby died and she now rests buried next to her mother, killed, together with her husband and her other three-year-old daughter, by Israeli bombings. “She joined her family as a martyr”, repeats Mohammad Salama, head of the hospital’s neonatal emergency unit to those who question him, he is the one who tried in every way to save the little girl and for him, he was unable to do so it was “personally very difficult and painful”.
The love of healthcare workers
The story and photos of Sabreen, named after her mother, went around the world, which hoped until the end that the little girl would manage to stay alive, brought to light by the emergency caesarean section of the doctors at the Kuwaiti hospital of Rafah, born while her mother, thirty weeks pregnant, lost her life. The little girl was placed in an incubator in the neonatal intensive care unit of another hospital immediately after giving birth. But unfortunately the love with which all the doctors had pumped air into that little body was not enough to save her.
