Gaza City, April 26, 2024 – Sabreen al-Sakani has diedthe Palestinian girl born with a emergency caesarean section after mother’s death, killed in an Israeli raid in Rafah. It reports it BBC thus putting an end to a story that had caused people to cry out that it was a miracle. Doctors at Rafah hospital had in fact managed to extract her 30-week-old baby alive from her dying mother’s womb and, although she had trouble breathing, they had managed to save her by gently pumping air into her lungs.

His story had made the rounds on the web, along with the video showing her inside the incubator and with a ribbon on her wrist on which was written “Daughter of the martyr Sabreen al Sakanì”. Unfortunately the epilogue was very different from what we had hoped for.
The little girl was the only survivor of the family: lmother, father Shukri and three-year-old sister Malak had been killed from the Israeli bombing while they slept. The little girl was supposed to stay in the incubator for at least another three or four weeks and her maternal grandmother Mirvat al-Sakani had said she would adopt her. The little girl was given the name Sabreen Erooh (“spirit of Sabreen”) in honor of the mother with whom she will now be buried.
Sabreen is among the 16 children who were killed in two air raids launched by the Israel Defense Forces on Rafah last weekend. The bombing targeted the residential complex where they lived, although the IDF reported targeting Hamas militants and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Tel Aviv army is preparing for theground attack in Rafah. Since yesterday, tanks and armored vehicles have been amassed along the southern border with Gaza, at the Kerem Shalom crossing.
