The Arenzano railway station will be completely free of architectural barriers. The Ombudsman of the Liguria Region Francesco Cozzi intervened at RFI, welcoming the reports of citizens and local associations, so that in an abandoned area of the company the municipal administration can create a pedestrian entrance from the mountain side (via Carlin) free of architectural barriers to guarantee access to people with reduced mobility, mothers with prams and all other subjects who cannot, however, use the current entrance.

The mayor had long been in talks with RFI based on the proposal, formulated by the Municipality itself, of being able to use the third track, which had been abandoned for years, to create a level pedestrian crossing.

«The station has already been the subject – explains the Ombudsman, after an inspection – of a successful redevelopment intervention in 2026 and 2017, but citizens and associations complain that the entrance from the mountain side takes place exclusively via stairs and that there are no slides to facilitate the transport of suitcases and bicycles. The Municipality’s project hypothesis includes, in addition to access without architectural barriers, also a rest area for bicycles and motorcycles».

RFI has declared itself available for this intervention and now the Municipality of Arenzano will be able to present a formal request for the free loan acquisition of the spaces and the definitive project. The construction work will be the responsibility of the civic administration.

The Ombudsman is part of the permanent tables with RFI, the Liguria Region, the Regional Disability Council and user representatives, in which the critical issues linked to the mobility of users on the Ligurian railway network are also addressed and, in this role, he has repeatedly raised the attention to the need to adapt many stations, and not just those with a greater tourist vocation and occasional use, to guarantee adequate use for all users and, above all, facilitate people with reduced mobility or passengers with bicycles or wheelchairs, also through activation of the “Blue Rooms”, functional for assistance and accompaniment in the stations.

«We thank RFI and the Municipality of Arenzano – concluded the Ombudsman Cozzi – for the sensitivity demonstrated with the hope that the project for the transfer of the loan for use of the area and the economic and financial feasibility project of the intervention will be quickly carried out”.
