Ua charity evening to support ostomy patients. The theater show “Collocazione Provvisoria” is scheduled for next May 3rd at the Teatro del Fuoco in Foggia with Fabio Conticelli and Dino La Cecilia (written with Aldo Augelli and Fabio Di Credico) to raise funds for A.STOM.APS (Foggia APS Ostomy Association) which in 2022 started the project of a clinic dedicated to ostomy patients and their families, welcomed and shared by the general director of the Foggia Local Health Authority Antonio Nigri. The experimental outpatient activity, which began on 8 January this year, currently takes place 2 afternoons a week, on Mondays and Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm. The clinic visits on appointments organized by the voluntary staff of the association with post evaluation -operative and indications on the management of the stoma (stoma – care), compilation of the definitive program for the supply of prosthetic devices, drafting of the rehabilitation program with educational interventions for users and their families and monitoring of the stoma, through periodic outpatient checks.
During these first 4 months of outpatient activity, during the afternoon sessions, some problems were encountered: elderly users who were not very mobile and in need of accompaniment, need for medication even daily due to complications from stomas (detachment, bleeding, etc.), users doubled from the initial 16 to 30 patients per week and growing rapidly, for a a total of approximately 450 healthcare services provided, as shown by the analytical reporting delivered to the ASL managers. In light of the satisfaction of ostomy patients and the importance of the service offered from a socio-health point of view, it is necessary to double the afternoons also in consideration of the urological users and the start of the service psychological assistance with two new afternoon openings. Furthermore, the departure of the patient support programedited by Friends of the APS Stoma, unable to reach the clinic by their own means.
