From Pesaro to San Benedetto del Tronto, passing through Fano, Ancona, Macerata, Camerino and Sant’Elpidio a Mare. The jazz capitals of the Marche region are mobilizing to celebrate International Jazz Day 2024 which will involve over 190 countries worldwide on Tuesday 30 April.

The epicenter will be Tangier, Morocco. Established by the UNESCO General Conference in 2011 and recognized by the United Nations General Assembly, International Jazz Day brings together countries and communities around the world every 30 April. The celebration of this day aims to highlight the power of jazz and its role in promoting peace, dialogue between cultures, diversity and respect for human dignity.

In the Marche, the initiatives to celebrate the event will be preceded by the solo concert by Antonello Salis (piano and accordion) scheduled for 28 April (6 pm) at the Teatro Comunale di Monte San Martino as part of the Tam-Riverberi festival. On the same morning, at 11.30 am, again in Monte San Marino, Valeria Sturba’s concert will be held (tickets sold out) at the Madonna delle Grazie church. For the Marche initiatives of International Jazz Day 2024 we start from Pesaro, where the third edition of the Rossini Jazz Festival, a review of the jazz school of the Rossini Conservatory, will take place on 29 and 30 April. At Palazzo Gradari, on the 29th at 11 am, conference-concert by Vincenzo Presta and Massimiliano Rocchetta. At the same time on April 30th Gian Marco Gualandi will explain the language of the big band. The two concerts are scheduled at 4.30 pm led by teachers Gian Marco Gualandi, Mauro Campobasso, Daniele Mencarelli, Alessia Obino, Massimiliano Rocchetta and Lorenzo Tucci.

The network

“But what is jazz” is the title chosen by Fano Jazz Network. The Teatro della Fortuna will host three events, all on April 30th. The first at 10 am will see the performance of the Gandiglio jazz band followed by the Marchetti orchestra from Senigallia. At 11 it will be the turn of the Marconi Jazz Ensemble and the Mosaico Musicale orchestra. The latter will play for the main concert at 9.15 pm. Conducted by Jean Gambini, it will host Daniele Di Gregorio (marimba and vibraphone). Also in Fano, at 6 pm, at the Caffè Centrale (Pier Maria Amiani gardens) there will be The Real Groovers all stars concert entitled “Fano Jazz Day” organized by the Fano Jazz association. Ancona Jazz presents the event inspired by the music and world of John Coltrane at the Mole Vanvitelliana auditorium (7.45 pm).

The band will be composed of the poet Keith LaMar (in streaming connection from the Lucasville-Ohio prison), Albert Marquès, Gabriele Pesaresi, Marc Ayza and Mattia Basilico. Keith LaMar is a prisoner sentenced to death in 1993 and awaiting execution. The project that will be presented is entitled “Freedom First, music from death row”. Macerata and Camerino are two Musicamdo events. In the provincial capital, at 9.15 pm, in the large Cesanelli hall of the Sferisterio, the concert “Homage to Burt Bacharach” will be held with the Musicamdo Jazz Ensemble together with the singer Perla Palmieri.

In Camerino (10 am), at the Corelli music academy, the concert for the Betti comprehensive institute is scheduled with the quartet composed of Maurizio Moscatelli, Alessandro Menichelli, David Padella and Roberto Bisello. At the Cicconi theater in Sant’Elpidio a Mare (9.15 pm), the Syntonia Jazz association, in collaboration with Amat, presents the concert “Echoes Sustain Able” which will feature the Fermo guitarist and composer Roberto Zechini and the trumpeter Giovanni Falzone . Together with them Luca Di Nisio, Samuele Brunori and Luca Di Muzio. Finally in San Benedetto del Tronto, in the poetry room of the Bice Piacentini palace (9 pm), the MusicArt association will present the quintet led by the singer Antonia De Angelis (with Simone Maggio, Enrico Fidani, Luca Rastelli and Nicolò Di Caro) who will bring on stage “George Gershwin, the favorite of the gods”. With the actress Carla Civardi who will tell episodes from the composer’s life.
