Despar 4T. Youth, the U20 wins while waiting for the final four

This season too is approaching the sunset for the Despar 4 Torri Ferrara nursery. The U20 Silver is the only selection still fighting for the category title, and closed the group preceding the final four with a victory this week, awaiting the pairings. Against Lugo at Pala 4H it is a slow paced match between already qualified teams: however the visitors with the zone never allow the Ferrara team to find a rhythm, and also thanks to the extended rotations the Granata go into the interval at -5. In the second half the music doesn’t change, but Lugo finds himself running out of oxygen (he ends up with 4 players on the pitch) and in the end Despar wins 60-57.

It’s time to take stock for the U17 Silver, the U14 Silver and the U19 Gold. The boys of coaches Villani, Tani and Gambale bring home the seventh success in a row 82-57 against Happy Basket, which is not enough to secure a place in the playoffs. The Granata, with a return round of eight victories out of ten matches, finished in fourth place, to the satisfaction of the staff with the team’s change of pace, and for Bassi, the best scorer in the championship with 21.1 points on average.

Last match of the championship also for the U14 in the heartfelt city derby of the Pala 4T with the Ferrara Basket School. The 4 Torri started off well with a wild Obaseki scoring 12 points (of 36 personal points) in the first quarter alone, tied at 15-15 by the physicality of the guest. Obaseki continues to rage in attack but the Basket School takes the lead at halftime 29-32. Despar doesn’t give up, Chirica also wakes up and scores important points (17) on the counterattack and it’s 55-57 at the start of the last period, fatal for the Granata, who surrender 66-88, a result that doesn’t do justice to a match excellently played for three quarters. In the final balance of the season the U14 group went from three games won and fifteen lost last year to nine wins out of eighteen games, finishing in fifth place in the top part of the table.

The last hopes of playing for the Primavera Cup were also extinguished for the U19 Gold, who succumbed at a distance against the physicality of Renazzo. The first half of the match is under the control of the granata, who led by Ghirelli (28) and Malfatto (18) find excellent solutions in attack, even reaching +12. However, too many rebounds and counterattacks were allowed to the opponents, who closed the game to 36-41. The third period remains balanced, with the 4 Torri pulling ahead, but the last fraction is a monologue from Renazzo. The Meteor took advantage of Telloli and Malfatto’s exits due to fouls and scored a 29-14 run which left the guests with no chance: the final result was 81-73.

Even the little ones took to the field. The Debutants recovered the away match on the Benedetto 1964 pitch: it was 2-9 for the Granata who were very loose in the first half, but their physicality in rebounding and in close-range shots allowed Cento to win 17-2 in the second period. Narindal goes wild in attack but the defense is too distracted and the score is 16-11. A very tight last half, the teams struggled to score: the score remained tied for a long time but in the final minutes a basket from Cento delivered fourth (6-4) and the game went to Benedetto. Finishes 10-4 in halves, 36-26 in points scored.

The Aquilotti, on the other hand, continue on their positive streak: the sixth consecutive success in the non-competitive championship arrives for the small Granata team, who win the derby against the Scuola Basket Ferrara B 8-16 (22-50 for total points).
