Pedestrian killed by collision: two years for the driver

Macerata, 26 April 2024 – For causing the death of an elderly person, hit while crossing the stripeswas sentenced to two years of imprisonment the 65 year old from Petriolo, Mario Fabrizi. The incident happened on August 21, 2017.

The sentence of the Macerata court

The victim was Ezio Porfiri, founder of generations of food traders, well known in the city. Although he was 92 years old, Porfiri was still very bright. That morning he was going to Corridonia, to get the wine which he produced himself, but crossing the pedestrian crossing in Corso Cairoli, right in front of his historic delicatessen, the van driven by Fabrizi arrived, which noticed the pedestrian too late and hit him head-on. Very seriously injured, Porfiri was immediately taken to Ancona and operated on but unfortunately a few days later,

on September 2, his heart stopped beating. The prosecutor’s office ordered an autopsy and the driver was accused of vehicular homicide for failing to give way to a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. The other day in court the trial was closed. As requested by prosecutor Francesca D’Arienzo,

Judge Domenico Potetti sentenced the accused to two years in prison. Fabrizi, defended by lawyers Danilo Bompadre and Valeria Attili, will still be able to appeal against the sentence

first degree to assert their reasons for what happened.
