De Cosmi remembers Scamacca’s debut at Lazio

Gianluca Scamacca is back to being talked about. After destroying Liverpool at Anfield, yesterday he allowed Atalanta to reach the Italian Cup final against Fiorentina with a goal in a half overhead kick (and another was disallowed).

His debut at Lazio

The footballer was born and raised in football in Rome, first in minor teams such as Cisco Roma and Monterotondo, then arriving in the Lazio youth team in 2009, at just 10 years old. He remained in the Biancoceleste for two seasons and in this period of time he was also coached by César. Another of his coaches was Roberto De Cosmi, who spoke today to TMW Radio about Scamacca’s beginnings in the biancoceleste.

The words of De Cosmi

He was very young. I met him even before because I remember him at a tournament in northern Rome. Physically he was already out of reach, being six feet tall at 12 years old. At the end of the season where we needed a different striker I made him debut. I remember that he scored 2 goals against Viterbese in 10 minutes. He has grown a lot in his choices. He has also improved in character. He was an exuberant boy with a lot of personality, not only in terms of physicality but also in terms of importance on the pitch. Now he still has this desire and has grown in character. I hope that at national level he can make a difference for us. I remember a playoff that we lost against Roma in which everyone on the pitch was 1998 except him who was 1999 and hit the post at 0-0. And then I remember him paired with Pinamonti with Nicolato with the Under 20s. There I started to see him in a different way. For me that experience helped him a lot.
