Roberto Muzzi, Cagliari manager, today spoke about the past, present and future in a long interview. Her words

Today Fanpage published the interview conducted in the company of Roberto Muzzi. The manager of Cagliari today he spoke between past, present and future in a long interview. His words:

ROLE IN CAGLIARI – «I am the technical coordinator of Cagliari’s Primavera and U18s, a sort of sporting director of the youth sector. More of a field role than a desk role, but I like it despite being aware of the responsibility. Our job is to try to bring players into the first team to enhance the youth sector in every way. Working well with young people is very important both for the clubs and for the whole movement”.

REDBLUE PERIOD – «Best years of your career? I have a very strong bond with this club and these people, it made me become a man and a player. They have been close to me in good and bad times from day one: I have always felt the warmth of the fans and I will always be grateful to them for this.”.

PLAYERS – «The strongest one you’ve played with? For me Fabian O’Neill is remembered less than he deserves because he was a really good footballer. Juventus signed him to replace Zidane, so this should already make it clear. He collected less than he should have but he was really strong. His passing was a very sad event but we can always remember him for the fantastic footballer he was.”.

OLD SCHOOL FORWARDERS – «For me it was more difficult before because it was the attackers who were penalised: previously a defender had to commit more than one foul to be booked and in any case they didn’t always receive cards, now the defenders are penalized more because at the first bad intervention they are immediately sanctioned and this affects performance. In some matches back then it seemed that they had forgotten the cards but now this is no longer the case. Then the regulations on own goals changed, VAR… it’s a completely different world”.

A MUZZI TODAY? – «Difficult to say, but I would say Oristanio of Cagliari has something in which I see myself. He has been a bit unlucky and has had a few too many injuries but he is a very interesting footballer ».

NATIONAL – «Many footballers grew up with the provincial teams who then climbed the pyramid of our football, others did not follow the same path, but those clubs have always been a great training ground for sport and life. In those days it was very complicated to get to the national team even just to make one appearance: one year I scored 17 goals in Serie A but I didn’t even see the blue player from afar”.

BLUE ROUTE – «I won two European titles with Cesare Maldini and was part of two very strong teams. In the first there were Peruzzi, Albertini, Baggio, Corini, Marcolin, Sordo, Buso, Melli while two years later there were Toldo, Cannavaro, Panucci, Scarchilli, Carbone, Inzaghi and many others… Of the Olympic experience I can only say that it was beautiful because we stayed in the village and it’s really amazing. Johnson was there, there were athletes from all over the world and you ate there with them at the self-service. The results weren’t brilliant but it was a truly wonderful experience».
