ATM explosion in Perugia: Investigations underway
ATM explosion – In the quiet hamlet of San Giovanni Bridgein Perugia, an explosion shook the community at the first light of dawn today, precisely at 04:40. A resident immediately alerted the police through the Single Emergency Number – 112, reporting the loud bang coming from the via Gustavo Benucci.
Responding promptly to the call, the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Section of the local Company and of the Station of San Giovanni Bridge they went to the scene, followed by the Fire Brigade. Upon arrival, the teams confirmed the explosion of an ATM at the “Banca Centro Toscana Umbra” branch, which occurred shortly before their intervention.
The investigations preliminaries revealed that attackers used explosive material to damage the ATM and the bank’s interior, causing a significant shock wave. The force of the explosion not only destroyed the device but also compromised part of the surrounding building.
An inspection meticulous was carried out by the Scientific Investigation Section of the Investigative Unit of Perugia, including the anti-sabotage bomb squad. This made it possible to ascertain that the perpetrators of the attack managed to steal several thousand euros in cash before fleeing the scene.
At the moment, i Carabinieri are conducting an in-depth investigation to reconstruct the full dynamics of the event and to attempt to identify those responsible behind this daring theft. Despite the significant damage to the ground floor, where the branch is located, the firefighters verified that the rest of the building remains usable, thus limiting the consequences of the explosion to the immediate financial and structural area only.
