A timid hope for the Amat workers after the meeting held this morning at Palazzo Palagonia between the president of the Mistretta company, the mayor of Palermo Lagalla, together with the Councilors Alaimo and Carta, the DG of the Ceglia Municipality, the Amat managers Caminiti and Piazza and the unions. The latter “once again represented the workers’ requests specifically regarding the undeferrable need for the renewal of the company contract despite having once again listened to the company’s difficulties in finding the necessary resources”.

In his speech, Lagalla reiterated that together with the municipal administration he is still working on putting the accounts in order. At the same time, the mayor, after listening to the concerns and expectations of the workers, gave the company a mandate to find solutions to meet the needs of the staff of the company that manages Palermo’s public transport.

In the next few weeks there will be a new meeting at the Amat headquarters in via Roccazzo “where – the unions specify in a note – the hope will be to reach a satisfactory solution“.

Strike 1 June postponed

Meanwhile, by invitation and obligation of the Guarantee Commission with a letter signed by the president Paola Bellocchi on Tuesday, the strike of June 1st was revoked for “failure to repeat the cooling and conciliation procedures”. The unions have specified that the dispute “will remain open until an agreement is signed” and are ready to reformulate it if solutions are not found at the next meetings with the subsidiary. In that case, the strike would only be postponed by a few days compared to June 1st.

Covid funds by May

In Amat they are still waiting for news from the Sicilian Region on the 12 million euros relating to the Covid emergency. On Monday, shortly before the press conference on the doubling of the Corleone bridge, the regional councilor for Infrastructure Alessandro Aricò announced that the Regional Council is in fact close to launching the rule of authentic interpretation to be voted on by the Ars and necessary to recognize the twelve million euros expected by the company of the Municipality of Palermo. “The offices drafted the act together with the Chief of Staff – underlined the exponent of Fratelli d’Italia -. In the next few days we will present the act to the Regional Council. After approval, the same will be transmitted and subsequently voted on at the Ars”. Regarding the timing for closing the issue with Amat, Aricò draws a very precise timeline. “I think the process will be closed between now and May“. Money that would give a big breath of fresh air to the coffers of via Roccazzo which closed the 2022 budget with a deficit of 21 million euros.

Ztl and blue zones, possible modification

Already on Wednesday there would have been a meeting between Amat and the municipal administration. There are two topics: the return of the Ztl pass issuing service to the Municipality of Palermo “in exchange” they are considering aextension of the blue zones in the seaside village of Mondello for the summer period. This would allow the shuttle bus service active in the VII District area to be strengthened.

Workshop problem

Since mid-March 37 former temporary workers have abandoned the workshops and Amat is now short of mechanics. Word has filtered through from union sources that there were around twenty vehicles left stationary inside the garages in via Roccazzo. One solution that the company is considering is to recall workers who have not yet reached 22 months of fixed-term contracts. Then a competition will be scheduled later.
