Atalanta in the Italian Cup final: Viola collapses in the photo finish, 4-1

Another match to remember, another victory in an infinite season. L’Atalanta beats 4-1 Florentine in the second leg of the semi-final of Italian Cup and flies to the final in Rome, where on May 15th they will face Allegri’s Juventus.

Gasperini, before taking his seat in the stands as a disqualified man, leaving room on the bench for Tullio Gritti, lined up the most awaited eleven, without any surprises. On the pitch there are Carnesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac; Zappacosta de Roon, Ederson, Ruggeri; Koopmeiners, De Ketelaere; Scamacca. Italiano’s Fiorentina resumes with the same method as the first leg: midfield with Mandragora and Bonaventura and front-wheel drive with Kuamé, Beltran and Gonzales supporting Belotti.

The Viola seem to want to decisively attack the Goddess, but at 7′ they are already down for a nice restart by Scamacca who serves Koopmeiners forward: the Dutchman takes off (thanks to a favorable rebound) and beats Terracciano with a peremptory diagonal under the North. Atalanta in the lead and a double match that returns to a draw. In the quarter of an hour Scamacca even scores the 2-0 with a thunderbolt from the edge, but the referee La Penna cancel after VAR review for a foul by Koopmeiners on Beltran in midfield.

The stomp is there, but the doubt is that it will arrive on Koopmeiners’ momentum after he touches the ball first. The 1-0 holds up until the first half, with the tactical theme unchanged: Fiorentina looking for “the pile” in the area and Atalanta defending with extreme order, thanks to Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac and an attentive Carnesecchi. Ultimately it is Atalanta who have the best further scoring opportunity towards the end of the half, when Ruggeri collects with the right a ball in the area and shoots sensationally high.

In the recovery Atalanta starts with determination and the key episode arrives after a quarter of an hour. Scamacca only launched at the net is mowed down by Milenkovic. Expulsion clear and Viola in ten. Gritti loads the artillery and inserts Lookman, Pasalic and Miranchuk in succession.

When a black and blue assault seems to be taking shape, the cold shower: free kick for a foul by Hien on three quarters and header in the area by Martinez Quarta who was left alone. 1-1 and Viola ahead again for qualification. The siege becomes effective, Italiano brings everyone behind to gather density, but the Goddess takes care of bringing it forward again Check that with an overhead kick scores goals in the manner of Parola: 2-1.

Atalanta throws its heart over the obstacle and when i additions seem inevitable, in the 4th minute of injury time Liberation arrives. The goal is Lookman, on the edge of offside. The VAR review lasts for endless moments, but then the roar: the goal is good, 3-1 and qualification assured. We play for another minute and it’s even there for the fourth goal, with Pasalic on the counterattack. It ends 4-1 and there is a justified jubilation. It’s the final against Juve, on May 15th now. There is the defeat of three years ago to be sold, there is a trophy to be won. Come on!
